Between the Second World War and 1975, five hydroelectric dams - Castillon, Chaudanne, Sainte-Croix, Quinson and Gréoux-les-Bains - forming two groups located upstream and downstream of the gorges were set up on the course of the Verdon. These dams have created water reservoirs essential to supplying the lower Provence with drinking and irrigation water. They also allow the production of hydroelectric power.
