Until 2006, the architect Frank Gehry had undertaken only one building in Paris, the American Center (1987-1994). Disused and converted, the building now houses the Cinémathèque française since 2005. The Louis Vuitton Foundation marks a notable evolution after the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The one-hectare site, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d’Acclimatation, gave the project more space and freedom. Twelve gigantic sails of glass and steel envelop juxtaposed white cubes. The glass of the double-curved windows was pixelated to acquire a slightly white tint with reflective properties.
