Tightly packed sand

In art casting, all pieces are made from a plaster or metal model. The moulder places the model between two frames filled with tightly packed sand and thus makes a precise impression of each half of the model. The use of sand makes it possible to cast materials with a high melting point, such as cast iron. This technique is ideal for casting large parts as well as for small series. The GHM foundry in Sommevoire (Haute-Marne) has a stock of frames that can be used to manufacture most parts. If necessary, the factory’s mechanical department can make customised frame.
