From mining scrub to lowland forest

The mining scrub type low and rare vegetation of the ultra-basic terrains of the west coast of Grande-Terre changes down to the coast and gives way to a low altitude forest on varied rocks. This sclerophyllous forest with Gardenia urvillei, Acacia spirorbis, Dodonea viscosa and niaouli occupies the area behind the coastal fringe. Its woody formations are located less than 328ft (100m) above sea level.
