From a raw H to a prestige H

In 1874, the Organic Law, known as the Bocher Law, signed by Marshal Mac-Mahon, the President of the French Republic, dictated the general overhaul of the National Studs. It also adopted the simple, raw H as their emblem on the harnesses. At the end of the century, during the Belle Epoque, the H was surrounded for more prestige by a belt buckle and acanthus leaves. However, the raw H, less expensive and easier to maintain, remained on exercise harnesses and draft stallion hitches until they entered the so-called prestige presentations from the 1980s.
