The young crested black macaque (macaca nigra) depends totally on its mother for a full year during which she breastfeeds it but its period of immaturity extends until the age of 3-5 depending on its sex and the surrounding food resources. Its mother provides most of its education and gives birth to a small one about every 20 months during her period of fertility.
