According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the population of crested black macaques (macaca nigra), an endemic species of Indonesia, dropped from 300 individuals per km2 in 1980 to 45 in 2011, a more than 80% decline. The reasons for this dramatic decrease are related to the shrinking of their habitat due to deforestation and logging and the ongoing hunting.
