Crested black macaques are critically endangered, mainly because of poaching and for using them as pets. To fight the Sulawesi inhabitants' practices, who continue to hunt them, local protection associations such as the Macaca Nigra Project or the Selamatkan Yaki carry out campaigns in schools. They raise awareness among the children about the richness of this wildlife.
