Grooming, a social act
5
0
Like cries and mimics, grooming is part of the negotiation language of the crested black macaque (macaca nigra). It is an act of submission which, by allowing to maintain the social bond and to calm the conflicts, goes far beyond the simple prospection of the other's fur. The groomer untangles and searches the hair tufts of its congener to remove dust, parasites and dead cells.
