The built heritage of the Luberon includes innumerable dry limestone buildings that contribute to its richness and character. This construction technique is used for all types of habitat, from Provençal farms or typical peasant houses known as mas to cabins of dry stones or bories used by shepherds or hunters to protect themselves from the mistral. Dry limestone also constitutes the main structure of Luberon's opulent bastides and dovecotes, rural chapels, fortified castles, or mills.
