Red deers (Cervus elaphus) are large herbivores whose males can weigh up to 551 lbs (250 kg) and sport new antlers at the end of each spring. Driven from the large clearings of the primary forest by the development of agriculture, they have found in the Monts d'Azur Reserve an environment favorable to tranquility, which allows their observation in diverse social interactions within the herd. Red deers spend most of their days in forest areas and venture into clearings and meadows at nightfall.
