Draft horse and horse-drawn traction

Horse-drawn traction gave rise to the development of breeds of 'draft horses' - such as this Comtois horse - specially selected for this use. These animals with adapted morphologies are able to tow over long distances heavy objects capable of sliding (such as sleds on snow) or rolling (such as carriages or wagons). They can even tow heavier weights along towpaths if they float (like barges).
