The plumed basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons) is one of the largest basilisk species. This close cousin of iguanas, with an arboreal and semi-aquatic way of life, owes the name of basil to the crests that it sports to signal its presence. Males have a double caudal crest and a dorsal crest along the back and tail. Females have a single caudal crest, shorter than males.
