Eastern Corsica, the Eastern Plain is characterized by numerous ponds and wetlands. Long barrier beaches separated them from the sea. The Urbino pond, second biggest pond of the island, is recognized for its wide range of avifauna. Among them, colonial Laro-Limicolae species invade the peninsula and the islet in the pond. There are nine protected migratory species that breed on the French Mediterranean coast.
