Woodturning has diversified over the centuries, from its earliest traces dating back to around 1350 BC in Egypt to the current proliferation of CNC lathes increasing repeatability. Intended in Antiquity to produce everyday objects - in particular crockery, ornaments, funerary objects or furniture - some specimens dating from the age of Tene (-450 to -25 years BC ) having been found in Jura, it became essential to everyday life in the Middle Ages. Woodturners then manufactured the majority of the household objects in wood coated with beewax but also all kinds of tools and their handles, spinning wheels, shovels, pulleys, wheel hubs, table or chair legs... the way Robert Marichy still does in his Arinthod workshop.
