The cheetah is a diurnal predator. It tends to take advantage of the morning and evening coolness to hunt, and rests in the shade during the hottest hours of the day. By hunting during the day, cheetahs try to avoid food competition with other predators, such as lions, leopards or hyenas, that are rather nocturnal.
