Distribution of the New Caledonian mangrove

The mangroves of New Caledonia are mainly present in the sheltered bays of the west coast of Grande-Terre, which hosts 88% of the 223sqmi (359km2) of the Territory's total mangrove area. The southern province of the island has 101sqmi (163km²), including 30 hectares in the heart of the capital Nouméa, one of the only cities in the world with a mangrove swamp in an urban area.
