The sands and sandstones of the Apt region are distributed from east to west according to a more or less continuous strip limited to the north by the Vaucluse mountains and to the south by the Luberon. Their colors vary from light green to brown through white, yellow, orange, and red depending on the oxides - manganese, silicates, aluminum - which color them.
