Distinctive beak and song

The yellow-legged gull (Larus michahellis) has a thin, sharp beak that allows it to feed on all kinds of food that it accesses more easily than other birds with differently shaped beaks. Such morphological specificities thus limit the food competition between species. The yellow-legged gull's characteristic song explains the etymology of its French name, which comes from the Breton gouelan, meaning to cry.
