Discovering birds at 10

Antoine Cubaixo’s passion for nature, and birds in particular, was born at his father’s side when he was ten years old. Today, he has become one of the official ornithological guides of the Lac du Der-Chantecoq. His favourite time of year is from September to February. The lake then becomes an immense wild mudflat frequented by thousands of birds from the high Arctic, Siberia and Northern Europe, on their way to Spain and Africa. Among them are more than 250,000 Common Cranes (Grus grus): some stop only for a few days to rest and feed, others spend the winter in Champagne.
