Dinner in the dining car

Around 1925, the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits introduced a new type of metallic, comfortable, efficient, and luxurious dining car. About fifty guests could dine in it and admire the walls decorated with marquetry and panelling by René Prou, the solid silver cutlery, and the Lalique crystal tableware. And, above all, to enjoy the dishes of the best chefs of the moment who officiated, nevertheless, in kitchens of barely 8 square metres. Fine wines and famous cigars were stocked in quantity for the greatest pleasure of travellers.
