We call differential erosion the irregularity inherent to the process of degradation and transformation of a relief. It results from differences in the resistance of soils or rocks and causes a highlighting of resistant areas to the detriment of soft surfaces. Differential erosion creates figures similar to those visible in the Provençal Colorado of the Luberon Regional Nature Park.
