Cast iron has a melting temperature ranging from 2,075° to 2,552° F (1,135 to 1,400° C). There are several kinds of cast iron, depending on the percentage of carbon and silicon it contains. Gray cast iron has high weldability and often serves for street furniture making. It is used by the GHM foundry in Sommevoire to craft benches and the handrails adorning the Guimard subway entrances in Paris. White cast iron is mostly reserved for art foundry but is more difficult to machine.
