Different shapes of volcanoes

It is the magma that conditions the different forms of volcanoes found in Auvergne. They vary according to its greater or lesser viscosity or fluidity linked to its silica content on the one hand and with the rate of gas contained in the magmatic chamber that promotes its rise on the other hand. A fluid and gaseous magma would rise quickly to the surface while emitting long lava flows and projecting slags that would form a cone. A viscous magma, on the other hand, would prevent the formation of gas bubbles and accumulate at the exit of the eruptive mouth, forming a dome. Finally, when the magma rising to the surface meets a phreatic table, the resulting explosion creates a crater called maar.
