In addition to postures and odorous marks, the black-backed jackal has a whole repertoire of sounds to communicate. It barks, grunts, yelps or even yells sometimes in the typical wolf posture, head thrown back. These different calls are used to identify members of the group from other jackals and to delimitate its territory.
