Located at an altitude varying between 2,414 and 2,560 ft (736 and 780 m), the Lac de Serre-Ponçon is first surrounded by a hillside or supra-Mediterranean typed vegetation between 2,624 and 3,937 ft (800 and 1,200m), characterized by pubescent oaks and thuriferous junipers. At this altitude, the wooded areas are interspersed with agricultural sectors occupied by crops, dry lawns, and wet meadows along the rivers. From 3,280 ft (1,000 m), the slopes are covered with pure or mixed beech groves (maple, oak, fir, spruce) and pine forests.
