Different cliffs from north to south
0
0
The cliffs of the Martinican coasts present very different characteristics in the north and in the south of the island according to the morpho-geological structures on which they depend. To the north, they result from the erosion of recent formations, Mount Pelée and the Pitons du Carbet, and therefore have a significant drop and inclination. To the south (photo), they depend on ancient mountain ranges. Their scarps are, therefore, much lower and more gently inclined, and their materials (lahars, debris flows in a clay matrix) are less coherent.
