The swimming of the manta ray, whose pectoral fins move simultaneously from bottom to top, resembles the flight of a bird. Its horn-shaped cephalic fins have earned it the nickname 'sea devil'. It is however harmless for man even if, in Polynesia, the legend tells that it drowned the apneist pearl fishermen by covering them with its broad mantle.
