The hands of this old Kanak woman are braiding with the dexterity and rapidity of experience and practice the palm leaves cut along their central veins to intersect the bands. The braiding of coconut leaves is mainly used for making coarse mats and baskets while the bleached pandanus allows finer and more sophisticated braidings.
