The geometry and number of reef buildings are mainly linked to the fluctuations in the relative sea level which itself depends on the global eustatic oscillations and on the local tectonic adjustments. In periods of stability, the the reef buildings grow laterally but, in the event of a drop in the relative sea level, we witness the development of a multiple system of reef terraces such as the coral terraces of Shabadran Bay.
