The oldest buildings in the village of Séguret in the Vaucluse department date from the 10th century. Back then, the houses were packed behind the first ramparts oriented to the west that formed a protective barrier against looters and invaders. The village took on its current appearance in the 18th and 19th centuries when the rampart walk was lowered to enlarge the houses and their openings. In 1714, the construction of a retaining wall also enabled the development of the Place des Arceaux south of the Portail Neuf. The Mascarons fountain and the wash house were built in 1823, while the plane trees were planted around 1860.
