From its recognition as a picturesque site in 1924 to 1963, the Fort de Brégançon, a State property, was rented to individuals and notably to Robert Bellanger, a former undersecretary of state for the Navy. He had the fort restored and fitted out by building the wall and the dike which connect the islet to the coast, installing water and electricity, and creating a Mediterranean garden. The artificial jetty was subsequently supplemented by a median used as a parking lot for the fort's staff and convertible as a helipad.
