Two gothic styles within the same nave

The nave of Rouen Cathedral is unique in its composition as it displays primitive Gothic in the horizontal cuts, the bays between the arcades, and its triforium. Such characteristics bring it closer to the cathedrals of Noyon, Laon, and Paris. A fire in 1200 forced the architects to resume work, this time incorporating elements of a more evolved Radiant Gothic style. The columns that separate the 11 spans hence differ from the 4th span, their diamond base now being part of a circle and having 21 columns instead of 16.
