Two lakes created by a lava flow
0
0
Puy de la Vache and its twin volcano Puy de Lassolas gave rise to a joint lava flow. It traveled 9.3 miles (15 km) to the southeast and reached the current location of the villages of Saint-Saturnin and Saint-Amant-Tallende. The lava flow also created the two lakes of Cassière, to the north, and Aydat, to the south, by closing the Veyre valley. The surface of the flow called cheire d'Ayrat is bristling with slags fallen out during the explosions of the two volcanoes.
