In the Hautes-Alpes department, Fort du Château (foreground) dominates the town of Briançon at an altitude of 4,333 ft (1,321 m). It is linked to Fort des Têtes (4,812 ft / 1,467 m) by the Pont d'Asfeld that crosses the Durance gorges. In the background, the massif of Coste Rousse forms a line of ridges which culminates at 9,534 ft (2,906 m).
