The municipality of Le Lavandou was born in 1913 from the split of the town of Bormes-les-Mimosas that adjoins it to the west, with which it today forms a joint urban unit with the municipality of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer. Originally only a district of Bormes-les-Mimosas, Le Lavandou began an extended administrative process of municipal autonomy in 1909. It gave birth, in May 1913, to a fully-fledged town covering a territory of 7,351 acres (2,975 ha) between the point of Gouron to the west, the Fontalde ravine in Pramousquier to the east, and the Môle river to the north.
