Domaine de Castellane was created in 1895 by Viscount Florens de Castellane. From the origin, the Castellane champagne was recognizable by the red Saint Andrew’s cross on the label. The business was then sold to the Mérand family who kept the prestigious name. At the beginning of the 20th century, Fernand Mérand had buildings constructed along the railway and the Marne River. The Castellane’s Tower, which was originally a water tower and then an advertising tower, is 66 metres high and has 237 steps. Built by architect Marius Toudoire, it is listed as a Historical Monument for its Art Nouveau decorations and architecture.
