At the top of Mont Rizan, in Verzenay, a lighthouse worthy of Brittany stands amid a sea of vines. It is 82 ft high (25 m) and consists of 101 steps. Joseph Goulet, whose parents founded the Goulet-Turpin retail branch, which created the first supermarket in France in 1958, had it built in 1909 to promote his champagne wines. The lighthouse formerly hosted celebrations in its tavern and its restaurant. The First World War ended this success, and the monument went out for several decades. In 1999, an eco-museum dedicated to the Champagne terroirs was inaugurated next to the lighthouse that celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2019.
