As suggested by its name, the Giant Plated Lizard has square flat scales. It has a fold made of smaller scales on each side of the body to give the belly some useful flexibility after a big meal or for the female to carry her eggs. The female lays 2 to 5 oval eggs in soil-filled rocky crevices, usually in the middle of summer.
