Descent and turns

Descending and turning in cross-country skiing involve different techniques from alpine skiing, which can be confusing for the skiers of both sports. When going downhill, the arms and hands must always be kept in front, parallel to the skis and at eye level. Shoulders, trunk and arms should form a block that directs the skis. Knees bent, the bodyweight should be placed on the forefoot and not on the heels. In turns, because of the camber of the skis, bodyweight should be kept on the ski on the inside of the curve to counteract the centrifugal force.
