A descendant of the Solutré horse

A descendant of the Solutré horse, the Ardennes horse is one of the oldest breeds of draft horses in France. The Romans already used this breed, known to be docile, calm, and solid at work. Purebred breeding farms are found in the north-eastern quarter of France, in Champagne-Ardenne, Lorraine, and Alsace. Sometimes considered better for the health of the vine stocks, the Ardennes workhorse is making a comeback in some French vineyards. The Maison Marguet estate in Ambonnay owns four Ardennes horses, working on its plots since 2010.
