As the centuries went by, the Romanesque church of Saint-Basle in Bouzy, in the Marne, proved to be too small. In the 19th century, the parishioners financed the construction of a new church, the present building, which was completed in 1856. The southern façade, the southern arm of the transept, and the choir were restored in 2006, with the addition of two contemporary stained glass windows. The windows are arranged on either side of the apse and consist of two double panels 4.5 metres high. Based on drawings by Jean-Paul Agosti, the artist Antoine Benoit created a world-first: stained glass windows in one piece without lead, cement, or glass bonding.
