Antique stained glass windows

The church of the Exaltation-de-la-Sainte-Croix (Exaltation of the Holy Cross) in Bailly-le-Franc (Aube) is built according to the principle of stepped roofs and traditional local half-timbered houses and cob made of clay and oat straw. The nave is lit by a row of narrow bays framed by the cross of St Andrew. The stained glass windows, contemporary with the construction (1510), are simple and diffuse just the right amount of light into the building. Outside, a large Roman tile roof – once common in the Champagne region – covers the side aisles that enclose the nave and the west porch.
