Villas developed in the 19th century

Normandy discovered seaside tourism in the second half of the 19th century. The railways served the main stations quickly and gave rapid access to the wealthy people from the capital. Trouville and Deauville set the example with the rich seaside villas of their investors, and Houlgate or Cabourg followed in their footsteps in an unbridled experimental town planning. Renaissance, Gothic, Neo-Norman, or excentric, the villas are often listed today and constitute an open-air heritage on the Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast).
