The artist Christo Vladimiroff Javacheff, known as Christo, met his muse Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon in 1958. Based in New York, the contemporary artist couple gave a new look to objects. They wrapped furniture, prams, a supermarket caddy… In 1962, they changed scale with a wall of oil barrels erected in one night on rue Visconti in Paris, in reaction to the Berlin Wall. Using models, collages and drawings, they created increasingly gigantic projects. The use of canvas gives their works a “nomadic and ephemeral” aspect that tears the monuments from the ground where they are placed.
