Simon Sabran, the ancestor of the Tezenas family currently owning the castle of Brégançon, bought the estate in 1816. At the time, it covered 2,545 acres (1,030 ha) of land, of which only 185 acres (75 ha) were devoted to vines. The remaining cultivated area consisted of 2,000 olive trees, 2,000 mulberry trees, 600 fig trees, and numerous other fruit trees, as well as vegetable gardens supplying the Fort de Brégançon, then a military base.
