Dyes extracted from pastel, madder, and weld

The scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry are embroidered with woolen threads on a linen canvas. The dyes used on wool were extracted from pastel, madder, and weld. The pastel allowed producing indigotin, a dye creating the different shades of blue used on the tapestry. Through its roots, madder produces a red pigment at the origin of the various pink, orange, or brown tints. As for the weld, it was once cultivated in Europe for the yellow dye it contains.
