The food prospecting techniques of the greater flamingo (Phœnicopterus roseus) in shallow water are multiple and specific. It can move forward, head submerged, and filter the column of water that it sucks with its beak. The flamingo can also stay in place and trample on the mud with its webbed feet to find the organisms it feeds on or even turn gradually on itself while forming circles in the silt with its submerged beak.
