In the Mont-Dore massif, eruptions linked to the formation of the Sancy stratovolcano as well as the glacial erosion that followed are at the origin of geological structures typical of the massif, and a great diversity of rocks, largely masked by the snow in this photo. There are phonolitic domes, ash flows, basaltic dykes, lava needles, as well as glacial valleys and cirques that open up the landscape.
