The draught horse is making a significant comeback in all French vineyards. It is a much cheaper investment than a tractor. Very steep or small plots are difficult for machines, whereas horses can easily negotiate all types of terrain. Naturally, the yield is lower (one row instead of three with a tractor), but the soils benefit from the cooperation between vine, horse, and man. Less compressed, they develop a much richer microbial life. Champagne Marguet has adopted the horse since 2010.
